FAQ

Are there any upcoming projects or new releases from the author?2023-04-07T03:41:10+00:00

I feel incredibly fortunate to have an abundance of ideas and stories to turn into books. In fact, sometimes I joke that I’ll need multiple lifetimes to bring them all to life! Despite having many ideas, I started by focusing on three of my most abstract picture book concepts as a way of pushing past my creative blocks and removing the fear of being misunderstood. For me, the magic of the picture book genre lies in its ability to convey deep and meaningful messages with minimal words. It’s a unique and rewarding form of storytelling that I’m incredibly passionate about. I’m pleased to announce that I have four new titles set to be released in 2023.  I will be filming the creation process for the upcoming titles as well. But that’s not all—I’m also working on a special project that I believe will be the first of its kind. I’m incredibly excited about the potential of this project, and can’t wait to share more details soon. So stay tuned for updates, and in the meantime, keep an eye out for my upcoming releases!

What is your writing process like?2023-04-07T00:58:30+00:00

In the past, I used to hold onto multiple drafts of my writing, thinking that every line was precious and worth keeping. However, I found that this approach only hindered my creative process. I was too focused on trying to incorporate lines from previous drafts, instead of allowing new ideas to flow naturally.

Now, I trust in my own creative intuition and store my ideas in my head until they’re ready to be written down. For me, writing is not about sitting down at a desk and forcing the words out. Instead, I find inspiration in writing on my iPhone, which allows me to write anytime and anywhere, without the pressure of a designated writing space. I can jump in and out of my thoughts and resume my daily life easily.

Ultimately, I’ve learned to trust in my own creative process and the natural flow of ideas. The writing will come when it’s ready, and my job is to stay open and receptive to it, no matter where I am or what I’m doing.

How do you come up with story ideas?2023-04-07T00:44:22+00:00

I’m always gathering ideas for my books from everyday happenings and bits of information. My brain naturally connects those ideas to seemingly unrelated metaphors and phrases, and I enjoy using them to explain things to others.

When I’m writing, I try to convey complex ideas in a way that’s easy for anyone to understand. I usually start with a title or phrase that inspires me and build my story around it.

What inspires you to write and illustrate picture books?2023-04-07T00:41:29+00:00

I’ve always loved writing and illustrating, but I used to lack the confidence to be myself and share my ideas with others. I struggled to create meaningful stories that truly reflected who I was. That all changed when I became a parent and started writing picture books for my daughters. It was a way for me to connect with them on a deeper level and express my emotions openly. Through this experience, I discovered a new level of creative freedom and found my voice as a storyteller.

My ultimate goal is to create something that resonates with a wide audience and captures the essence of who I am. It’s not about the praise or recognition, but the feeling of knowing that I’ve created something that speaks to people on a deeper level. So, I keep pushing myself to improve my craft and find new ways to share my spirit through my work.

What are some of the tools you use?2022-04-14T00:28:50+00:00

I use a combination of traditional media and digital media.  Most of my work is finished using an iPad Pro Tablet or a Wacom Cintiq Pro Tablet.  These are basically screens that you can draw directly on.  All of my work starts with pencil and paper or crayon and paper.  It helps me to focus when I keep things simple!

Where do you live?2022-04-14T00:23:42+00:00

I live in Toronto with my wife and two amazing daughters!
